Prof. Miguel A. Martínez-González, is a medical epidemiologist, Professor of Public Health at the Navarra University (national qualification 2005). Adjunct Professor of Nutrition at Harvard since 2016. Head of the CIBEROBN group, he has designed and led, as Principal Investigator, large trials and cohorts, which have changed medicine, such as the SUN, PREDIMED and PREDIMED-Plus projects, initiated thanks to his Advanced Research Grant from the European Research Council, (ERC, 2014- 2019). These Spanish studies have yielded unprecedented scientific evidence with great worldwide impact.
Since 2013, he achieved several projects in collaboration with Harvard-MIT funded by the US NIH evaluating metabolomics in the context of randomized Mediterranean diet interventions.
In 1995, he founded and launched the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Navarra, which today is one of the most fruitful in Spain.
He has published more than 1000 indexed scientific articles. He is one of the most cited scientists in Spain in the ranking of all areas. He has been mentor of a large group of Professors and Full Professors of Epidemiology and Public Health. He is editor of the main textbooks in Spanish on Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Public Health.
As a writer, his 4 recent books (2018-2023) with Editorial Planeta stand out. He has received awards in USA (Grace Goldsmith Award, Rankin-Skratud lectura, and Stare-Hegsted lecture) and Spain (Premio Dr. Carles Martí Henneberg, Premio Nacional Investigación en Medicina Gregorio Marañón 2022). In October 2024, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the University of Almería.
He received a second Advanced Research Grant from the ERC in March 2023 to develop a large randomized trial ("UNATI") on alcohol.
